BANDS OF AKL 01 - HOST CLUB

An Interview With Host Club

Host Club consists of four talents Auckland high school students following their love for music and creating unique sounds that they are sharing with new Zealand. They have just finished recording their new EP which will be out very soon including a EP released gig ! I was lucky enough to sit down and chat with them about their music and ask them some Questions.

What are your creative process ?

With songwriting it has definitely changed , it starts off with the guitar at the start , followed by chords and then we come together as a ground and add to it . we have recently been doing a lot of collaborative writing and when we write we like to make layers starting with the vocals and guitar parts and then adding our own creations to make it one sounds. Finn “ When i have cords and lyrics to a song and i have the idea of the song in my head and then i bring it to the others and then small details and riffs are added it sounds a lot different to the original creation .

What genre do you think your music fits with best ?

when we started every song was a different style completely and even now its hard to put a name on the style that fits with our music ,  The one genre that we think our music fits with best is probably alt rock / jazzy alt-rock , we don't necessarily listen to jazz music but we listen to lots of musicians that are influenced by Jazz (second hand influence ). It would be cool to narrow it down because there are so many sub-genres in the alt rock genre . it is pretty broad to say alt rock as the genre our music fits into but we cant pin point our genre at the moment. Each song we write we are coming closer to a certain sound and you can hear the similarities compared to when we first started when all our songs sounded different.

How long have you been together ?

About a year now, our anniversary is on Valentines day.

Do you guys play numerous instruments ?

we can all play almost everything included in our band , we swap around

except for Finn he has no drumming rhythm but he can sing !

Jeremy “I play the trombone”

“ we sleep on our ideas , we want everyone to be on board so we give it a bit of time to decide on our creations “
